Micro Fat Grafting for Men
Micro fat grafting, also known as lipoinjection or fat transfer is a procedure with much promise in the world of plastic and reconstructive surgery, it aims to harvest the patient’s own fat and reinjects it into the area where a deficiency exists.
Such common areas for a deficiency include/but are not limited to:
- The sunken areas beneath the eyes
- The nasolabial folds (the deep wrinkles on the sides of the mouth that are often referred to as “laugh lines”)
- Forehead creases
- Cheek augmentation
- Aging hands
The ideal candidate for micro fat grafting surgery is:
- Someone who has excess fat in an area that can be harvested
- Someone who is physically healthy
- A non-smoker
- Someone with realistic expectation
One advantage is the ability to provide an element of permanent retention of approximately 35-50% of injected fat each session, with the average person requiring 3-4 sessions to obtain optimal results. Studies are now proving that the injected fat is providing localized tissue rejuvenation as well as increasing the volume which is something that dermal fillers cannot provide. Most dermal fillers are absorbed by the body within three to nine months, forcing the patient to maintain a regular injection schedule as well as consistently increasing costs.
Micro fat grafting procedures are often done in conjunction with other cosmetic procedures such as facelifts and blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) or as an independent procedure such as full face micro fat grafting or hand rejuvenation. Dr. Chahin will discuss with you these procedures, and what is mutually felt to be the best method of treatment to aid in achieving optimal results for you.
